The Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit (ICTU) proactively takes forward counter terrorism public education.  In addition to the earlier campaign targeting the taxi sector, ICTU has also launched a new initiative named “Accurate Pre-Declaration, Spot and Report” campaign for the logistics sector since September.  The campaign was formally kicked off at the meeting of the “Air Cargo Customer Liaison Group” held by the Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) on 6 September.

During the meeting, ICTU representative Chief Inspector YUEN Ka Yi shared counter terrorism and security messages and introduced the campaign to the participants, encouraging the sector to make proper customs declarations and timely report terrorism or violence related information.  Besides, ICTU and C&ED representatives presented certificates of appreciation to 16 personnel of the sector to recognise their active participation and support to the campaign.

On the other hand, ICTU officers organised an awareness briefing on 10 October for frontline staff of FedEx which has participated in the campaign, highlighting the importance of accurate customs declarations and strengthening their ability to identify suspicious activities.  ICTU will continue to conduct similar awareness briefings to the participating companies with a view to further enhancing the sector’s security awareness and building a safe community together.
